What is Oriental Tribal Style?

Oriental Tribal Style recreates what might have been.

This is an Oriental dance style that, appears to be ethnic without insisting to be "authentic". The costumes are inspired by traditional clothes from the Middle East and Asia.

Nomadic tribes often wander/ed through large regions where they met different cultures and borrowed elements of their dances and clothes.

As kind of "artificial nomades" Oriental Tribal Style dancers combine various elements that a travelling tribe could encounter on its long journey.

The tribe WeiberWirbel picked up the thread that the founders of this style began to spin about 30 years ago in California. The most famous representatives of this style that is called American Tribal Style today are FatChanceBellyDance who had and still have an important influence on WeiberWirbel.

Since we do not live in America, we replaced the "American" with "Oriental" - as we take influences from the whole region that is called Orient, from Morocco to India.

The most appealing features of this style for the audience are the strong presence and harmony of the group, the simultaneous movements and of course the colourful costumes. The dancers display the picture of proud women who dance together with the sisters of their tribe.
